A Tiled Town Hall by a Local Carpenter
The Former Futamata Town Hall (旧二俣町役場) is a town hall of 1936 in Futamata, Futamata-cho, Tenryu Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 31, 2003 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey timber building with a tiled roof and a building area of 237 square metres; registration number 22-0090.
A Town Hall by a Local Builder
The Former Futamata Town Hall is a two-storey timber office building with a hipped tile roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Scratch tiles clad the corner pilasters and the ground-floor walls, tall sash windows run along the fronts, and a slightly tall carriage porch projects at the entrance. It was the work of Motojima Isaburō, a local master carpenter.
Arts Council Shizuoka says the ground floor held the offices and the upper floor the assembly chamber. It became Tenryū City Hall in 1958; after the city offices moved in 1970 it served as a community hall and library. Renovated in 2010, it now houses the Honda Soichiro Monozukuri Museum, honouring the Honda founder, who was born in the area.
