A Grand Guest Hall of 1937

Kasuisai Zuiryukaku (可睡斎瑞龍閣) is a temple guest hall of 1937 in Kuno, Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on December 19, 2014 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a two-storey timber building with tiled and copper roofs and a building area of 638 square metres; registration number 22-0198.

A Guest Hall behind a Cusped Gable

The Kasuisai Zuiryukaku is a two-storey timber hall entered from the gable end, under a hip-and-gable pantiled roof with lean-to roofs around it and a cusped-gable porch at the front (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The ground floor has six rooms with generous alcoves and shelves; upstairs, a great hall is ringed by a tatami corridor.

Each room is lavishly decorated with transoms and painted sliding doors on its own theme (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The temple says the ceiling paintings and door paintings took one painter forty years to complete.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency calls it a grand guest hall with graceful interiors and registered it as a model of design.

What to Look For
