A Brick Warehouse of the Kikugawa Tea Trade
The Kikugawa Red Brick Warehouse (菊川赤れんが倉庫) is a tea warehouse of the late Meiji period in Horinouchi, Kikugawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on April 25, 2014 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey brick building with a tiled roof and a building area of 79 square metres; registration number 22-0194.
A Brick Warehouse by Kikugawa Station
The Kikugawa Red Brick Warehouse stands south of Kikugawa Station, a two-storey brick building running north-south under a hipped pantiled roof on Western trusses (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Dark over-burnt bricks are used to good effect at the base, in the cornice and in the segmental arches of the openings.
The openings were placed for moving tea leaves in and out, and inside there are traces of the tools used to blend tea (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
