An Inventive Gate of the Meiji Era
The Ganshoji Temple Gate (願勝寺山門) is an eight-pillared gate of the Meiji period in Mimacho, Mima City, Tokushima Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 8, 2009 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a timber gate with a tiled roof, 3.6 metres wide; registration number 36-0073.
An Eight-Pillared Gate of Original Design
The Ganshoji Temple Gate is an eight-pillared gate three bays wide with one passage, facing east under a hip-and-gable roof of hongawara tiles (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Round columns stand on stone bases, with projecting three-block brackets and carvings between them.
Two tiers of plate-like members run along the top of the columns, with ornamented king posts and posts shaped like lotus petals between them (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The central bay is opened in a bell-shaped arch decorated with plant motifs.
