The Shopfront of an Edo Brush Maker
The Edoya Store and Residence (江戸屋店舗兼住宅) is a shop-house with a decorated facade of 1924 in Nihonbashi Odenmacho, Chuo City, Tokyo, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on April 25, 2014 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey timber building of 94 square metres roofed in steel sheet; registration number 13-0322.
The Facade of an Old Brush Maker
The Edoya Store and Residence is a two-storey timber kanban-kenchiku, a shop with a decorated street facade, finished in washed artificial stone (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is 6.2 metres wide and 19.6 metres deep, with the shop, office and store below and living rooms and storage above.
According to Chuo City, it was completed in 1924 during the rebuilding after the Great Kanto Earthquake. Edoya, maker and seller of Edo brushes, has kept its shop on this street, part of the old Oshu and Nikko highways, since its founding in 1718. Seismic strengthening and renovation were carried out in 2010.
