A Girls' School Auditorium of 1937
The Okada Nikki Shonin Memorial Auditorium (岡田日帰上人記念講堂) is a reinforced-concrete auditorium of a girls' school of 1937 in Horinouchi, Suginami Ward, Tokyo, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on October 31, 2022 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a reinforced-concrete building of four storeys above ground and two below, with a building area of 878 square metres, altered in 1940, the late Showa period and 2000; registration number 13-0466.
An Auditorium of Pilasters and Octagonal Windows
The auditorium was built for Rissho Girls' High School, west of the Horinouchi Myohoji temple (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A four-storey reinforced-concrete building, it stresses the vertical with pilasters on the front and avoids ornament in the manner of its time.
The carriage porch was first fitted with terrazzo-clad round columns and is dignified by octagonal windows and fanlights (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The seating of the hall slopes gently, and the balcony curves on plan.
