Elevator Apartments from the Earthquake Rebuilding
The Tiger Building (タイガービルヂング) is a building first built as luxury rental apartments of the early Showa period in Kuramae, Taito Ward, Tokyo, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 7, 2008 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a reinforced concrete building of five storeys and a basement with two rooftop towers, covering 301 square metres, altered in 1955; registration number 13-0226.
A Building on Kokusai-dori
The Tiger Building faces east onto Kokusai-dori: a reinforced concrete building of five storeys and a basement clad in scratch tiles (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Round windows mark both ends of the front, and reliefs decorate the top of the walls (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It was first built as luxury rental apartments with an elevator.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered it as a model of design, an example of the buildings of the rebuilding after the Great Kanto Earthquake.
