A Gate and Wall between House and Storehouse

The Ishio Family Residence Gate and Wall stands along the road between the main house and the storehouse (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The wall is plastered with its posts exposed, with weatherboards below and a tiled roof carried on projecting beams.

At its east end opens a one-bay bracketed gate with a gabled tiled roof; its doors are painted in red iron oxide, and a diagonal lattice of crossed bars fills the transom (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape, as the gate and wall that give a great merchant house its weighty frontage in the centre of the old castle town.
