The Main House of a Shikano Merchant
The Ishio Family Residence Main House (石尾家住宅主屋) is a large townhouse of the late Edo period (1830 to 1868) in Shikanocho Shikano, Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 29, 2019 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a timber house with a tiled roof and a building area of 155 square metres; registration number 31-266.
A Merchant House on the Old Shikano Road
The Ishio Family Residence Main House is the main building of a merchant house in the old castle town of Shikano, facing north onto the old Shikano road (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It has a low upper storey under a gabled tiled roof, and to the west a separate inner room and a newer reception wing are ranged around a front garden.
The earth-floored area is to the east and the tatami-floored shop to the west, and the front is dressed with fine lattices, projecting lattice windows and carved brackets (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
