Once Called the Greatest Dam in the East
The Komaki Dam (小牧ダム) is a hydroelectric dam of 1930 in Shogawamachi Komaki, Tonami City, Toyama Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on June 25, 2002 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a concrete gravity dam 301 metres long and 79 metres high, with an auxiliary dam and a fish ladder; registration number 16-0069.
A Power Dam on the Shogawa River
The Komaki Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Shogawa River (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A full-scale concrete gravity high dam curved in plan, it has a spillway with tainter gates at the centre, an elevator-type fish ladder on the right bank and timber-transport equipment on the left bank.
Designed to allow for earthquake forces, it was a leap in scale and was called the greatest dam in the East (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
