Tomobuchi Hachiman Shrine

Tomobuchi Hachiman Shrine (鞆淵八幡神社) in Nakatomobuchi, Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, has a main hall built in 1462 and a Dainichi Hall of the early Muromachi period, each designated as an Important Cultural Property, on April 20, 1936 and January 19, 1931, dates of designation under the former law (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Both are owned by the shrine.

The Main Hall and the Dainichi Hall

The main hall is a three-bay hall in the nagare style, with a one-bay porch at the front and a roof of cypress bark, a shrine hall of the mid-Muromachi period (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Dainichi Hall is a Buddhist hall five bays square, single-storey with a hipped roof of round and flat tiles; standing within the shrine, it recalls the age when kami and Buddhas were worshipped together (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency record has no commentary on either; each is described on its own page.
