A Meiji Village Office
The Mutsumi Village Old Town Hall (むつみ村役場旧庁舎) is a village office building of 1895 in Kibekami, Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on June 12, 1997 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey timber building with a tiled roof and a building area of 233 square metres; registration number 35-0004.
A Gable-Fronted Meiji Office
The Mutsumi Village Old Town Hall is a two-storey timber building under a hipped roof, entered from the gable end, with a hip-and-gable porch at the front and pent roofs to either side (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The ground floor is laid out more or less symmetrically, with a central passage that cuts into the board-floored office at the back, an unusual arrangement (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Like the storehouse behind it, it is roofed with Sekishu tiles.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency notes that it is still loved as a surviving Meiji village office and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
