Rooms of Bark-Edged Posts and Polished Logs

The shoin of Hosenji was originally the shoin of the Hattori family residence and was moved here in 1930; it stands in the north-east corner of the precinct, linked by corridors to the main hall and priests' quarters across the garden to the south (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

It measures 15 by 6.1 metres under a hip-and-gable roof of pantiles, with a formal room, an anteroom and a tea room in a row from east to west and a veranda on three sides (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Bark-edged posts and polished-log rails make it a carefully built shoin in the sukiya style.
