The Former Mikawa-Hirose Station at a Glance
The Former Mikawa-Hirose Station in Higashihirose-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, is a former station on the Meitetsu Mikawa Line beside the Yahagi River; its station building and platform, both of 1927, were each registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on October 2, 2007. They are owned by Toyota City.
According to Tourism Toyota, the section of the Meitetsu Mikawa Line from Sanage to Nishinakagane closed after March 31, 2004, and the stations along it, Mikawa-Mifune, Shidare, Mikawa-Hirose and Nishinakagane, were closed.
Station Building and Platform
According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the platform lies about 10 metres north of the station building and curves gently along the Yahagi River beside it. Tourism Toyota notes that the old station stands by the prefectural road along the river at the foot of the Koubai Bridge.
The station building is a single-storey timber structure with an open waiting room and a staff office, and with the curving riverside platform it preserves the look of a station in the hills.
Visiting and Getting There
According to Tourism Toyota, both the former Mikawa-Hirose and Nishinakagane stations have toilets and parking. The nearest railway stations are Sanage on the Meitetsu Mikawa Line or Shigo on the Aichi Loop Line. Along the disused line, a walking path at the former Mikawa-Mifune Station and a trolley at the former Shidare Station are also featured.
