Built When the Line Opened

The Tsugaru Railway Former Ashino Koen Station Building was put up when the Tsugaru Railway opened in 1930 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a single-storey timber building with lean-to roofs front and back and batten-and-board walls.

Both gable ends are half-hipped with small windows, and a gambrel gable over the entrance adds a Western touch (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Inside, the counter that divided the station office from the waiting room survives.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes that the counter between office and waiting room still recalls the old days, and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
