A Finely Finished Meiji Reception Wing
The Maruya Detached Room (丸屋離れ) is a single-storey timber detached room of about 1897 east of the former Maruya hatago in Kamagaya, Kamagaya City, Chiba Prefecture, which in 2020 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a tiled roof and a building area of 65 square metres, owned by Nono Village Co., Ltd.
Kamagaya City notes an addition made in the Showa 50s.
Structure
According to the Agency, it is a single-storey hipped, pantiled building five and a half bays by three, with verandas on three sides (not the north) and an entrance toward the east of the front.
It has eight- and ten-mat rooms side by side, each with an alcove and shelves.
What to Look For
The Agency describes it as a small but finely finished Meiji reception wing.
Built apart from the main hatago building, it suggests a room for receiving guests of the house.
