A 1937 Workshop Along the South Edge

The Yasumoto Sake Brewery Bottling Factory (安本酒造瓶詰め工場, Yasumoto Shuzō Binzume Kōjō) is a 1-storey wooden workshop built in 1937 at Yasumoto Sake Brewery in Yasuhara-cho, Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 26, 2015. It has a metal-sheet roof and a building area of 65 square meters.

Of the ten listed structures with a firm construction date, it is the newest, built in the same year that brewing storehouse 1 was altered. It was added at the southern end of the lot as the place where sake was filled into bottles.

Ribbon Windows and a King Post Truss

According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Yasumoto Sake Brewery Bottling Factory is a long, narrow single-storey building with a gabled roof, running east to west along the south edge of the lot.

The south wall is built in Shinkabe style with the posts left exposed. Its lower part is clad in sasarako clapboarding, and above that runs a continuous band of windows. A strip of glazing like this reads as a way of bringing even light onto the workbenches where bottles were filled, and it gives the building the look of a modern workshop rather than a storehouse with small shuttered openings.

Inside is a single room with no columns, spanned by a King post truss. This Western-style triangular frame, with struts angled out from a central king post, lets the roof cross the full width of the building without any posts on the floor.

The Back of the Brewery

The Yasumoto Sake Brewery Bottling Factory is registered as number 18-0130, for its contribution to the historic landscape.

The Agency notes that the factory and the south wall continuing west from it share one design and together form the historic scene at the back of the lot. Both have the same sasarako clapboard base and run as one line along the southern boundary. If the house and gate on the old road are the brewery's front, the bottling factory and south wall are its rear elevation.

Seeing the Bottling Factory

The Yasumoto Sake Brewery Bottling Factory stands at the south end of the lot, and the Agency describes it as part of the view from the back. Its exterior may be visible from the south side, but check on site where it can be seen from.

The brewery does not offer tours and the interior is not open. Stay off the grounds and photograph from the public road.
