Nakamuraya Ryokan
Nakamuraya Ryokan is an inn at Iizaka Onsen in Fukushima City, whose main building of the late Edo period and new building of around 1896 were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on April 21, 1998 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
According to the Agency, an inn founded in the Edo period was bought by the present owners' ancestors, who kept it running.
The Two Buildings
The main building, said to date from the founding, is a three-storey storehouse-style building whose heavy form, with the third floor smaller than the two below, is unusual and stands out in the town (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The new building, said to date from shortly after the family began the business, is also three storeys in storehouse style, but every floor has the same plan and the upper two are tall and open, a striking contrast (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and is covered on its own page.
Getting There
A Fukushima City plan lists the inn among the registered cultural properties within a kilometre of Iizaka Onsen Station. No official information on the inn's business was found.
