A Storehouse at a Kiryu Merchant's Premises
The Former Matsuoka Shoten Storehouse (旧松岡商店蔵) is a two-storey timber storehouse of 1935 on the premises of the former Matsuoka Shoten at Eiraku-cho, Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, registered with the office as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on November 10, 2005 (Agency for Cultural Affairs, Kiryu City).
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records two storeys of timber with a sheet-metal roof and a building area of 29 square metres, registration number 10-0129.
Between Office and Home
The Agency for Cultural Affairs notes that it stands east-west toward the north of the site, between the office and the main house. Kiryu City describes it as fitted in between the office and the residence, with a covered space in front of its door.
According to Kiryu City, the Former Matsuoka Shoten Storehouse originally had a flat mortar roof. A fire in 1961 spread inside, but only scorched it.
Value as a Registered Cultural Property
The Former Matsuoka Shoten Storehouse was registered as a structure contributing to the historic landscape of the country. The Agency for Cultural Affairs notes that, with the office and main house, it conveys the premises as first built.
