Densely covered with buddhas, bodhisattvas, celestial musicians, kalavinka birds and Sanskrit dharani inscriptions, it is a benchmark masterpiece of Liao-period Buddhist sculpture and Japan's only stone banner-pillar of Chinese origin designated as an Important Cultural Property.
