A Store South of the Old Shop

The Sekinoichi brewery stands by the Iwai River, on part of the former quarter of the middle and lower samurai of the Ichinoseki domain (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Sato Tokuzo of Surisawa Village bought the Kumabun brewery and rebuilt it, to designs by his cousin Obara Yusuke, a pupil of Tatsuno Kingo.

The former sales warehouse, of 1919, is a plastered storehouse running north to south along the street, south of the former shop and office (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A single-storey gabled building with a tiled roof, 25 metres by 8 metres, it has doors on the courtyard side and at the south gable.

Dark fired bricks along the gable verge, in the same design as the former brewing storehouse, frame the south front to fine effect (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered
