A Simple Sukiya-Style Guest Hall

The Anrakuji Temple Shoin (Guest Hall) (安楽寺書院(客殿)) is sukiya-style rooms of logs and coloured clay walls of the late Edo period in Shishigatani Goshonodancho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 18, 2003 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber building with a tiled roof and a building area of 96 square metres; registration number 26-0147.

A Shoin Linked to the Main Hall

The shoin, or guest hall, of Anrakuji is a late Edo building east of the main hall, linked to it by a covered corridor (Agency for Cultural Affairs). About 13.7 by 7 metres, it has a gabled tiled roof with a lean-to on the south.

Three rooms run north to south (originally two rooms of fifteen mats), with verandas on the east, west and south. The inner main room has an alcove and staggered shelves, and logs and coloured clay walls make it a simple but sukiya-style room (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered
