The Guardian Shrine of the Lower Temple
The Daigoji Temple Seiryugu Main Hall (醍醐寺清滝宮本殿) is the late Muromachi main hall of the Seiryugu shrine in the lower precinct of Daigoji in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, which in 1954 was designated an Important Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a three-bay nagare-style shrine with a cypress-bark roof, designated with two shrine cabinets and a middle gate.
According to the Agency, it stands in the lower precinct and dates from 1517.

Daigoji explains that it enshrines Seiryu Gongen, guardian deity of the whole temple, whose spirit was brought down in 1097 from the shrine first built in the upper precinct.
What to Look For
Daigoji notes that the Seiryu festival (Sakura-e) came to be held before the shrine, which burned in the fighting of the Bunmei era. The present shrine was rebuilt in 1517, and the abbot Gien refitted the worship hall in 1599.
Each year from 1 to 21 April various rites are held as the Seiryu Gongen Sakura-e.

Daigoji is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in summer and 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in winter.
