The Southern Notice Board
The Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art South Information Board (京都市美術館南案内板) is a roofed information board of about 1933 in Okazaki, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on August 17, 2020 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a reinforced-concrete and partly timber structure with a copper roof, 3.3 metres wide; registration number 26-0604.
On the South Side of the West Front
The Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art South Information Board stands on the west front of the main building, towards the south end (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Two reinforced-concrete posts, tiled like the main building, carry a timber roof frame under a gabled copper roof, with a wooden board set between them (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
It matches the North Information Board in form and width and stands near the Main Gate (South). It is dated to about 1933, the same as the main building (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered it as a model of design, one of the elements of the museum grounds made to harmonise with the exterior of the main building.
What to Look For
Set beside the North Information Board, the two boards are clearly a pair placed at either end of the main facade (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The post tiles match the building walls, and the copper roof on its timber frame gives the board the look of a tiny building.
Visiting
The South Information Board stands outdoors at the south end of the forecourt facing Jingu-michi and can be seen from the pavement.
