A Concrete Gate with Domed Posts
The Amikan Head Office Main Gate (アミカン本社正門, Amikan Honsha Seimon) is a concrete gate of the early Showa period (1926 to 1944) on the west side of the Amikan Co., Ltd. headquarters at Tomidahama-motomachi, Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on September 10, 2010 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a concrete gate 2.7 metres wide; registration number 24-0093, owned by Amikan Co., Ltd.
Why It Was Registered
The main gate was registered as a structure contributing to the historic landscape of the country. Yokkaichi City says it was built at the beginning of the Showa period together with the office and brick wall.
What to Look For
The gate stands slightly set back near the middle of the west side, with the brick wall running north and south from it. The gateposts are concrete, 3.1 metres high, finished in washed aggregate, with domed tops ringed by a border (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
According to the Agency's description there were once side gates on both sides, but the southern one has been bricked up. The description gives the width as 5.8 metres, which differs from the 2.7 metres in the structural record.
