A Sloping Corridor of Diamond-Paned Glass
The Furuta Akira Memorial Museum Connecting Corridor (古田晁記念館渡廊下) is a covered corridor of the early Showa period in Kitaono, Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on April 28, 2009 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey timber corridor with a copper roof, covering 12 square metres; registration number 20-0348.
A Sukiya-Style Corridor on Logs
The Connecting Corridor links the south end of the east side of the Exhibition Hall's upper floor with the main house: a two-storey timber structure under a gabled copper roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Posts stand on logs laid across at a slight slope, and every bay is filled with glazed doors cut into parallelograms to follow the slope (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Logs are also used in the exposed roof ceiling, giving it a light, sukiya-style design.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
What to Look For
Look for the slanted glazed doors that follow the slope and the log rafters of the ceiling (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
