A Storehouse with an Open Upper Floor
The Furuta Akira Memorial Museum Exhibition Hall (古田晁記念館展示室) is a storehouse-style building of the early Showa period in Kitaono, Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on April 28, 2009 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey storehouse-style building with a tiled roof, covering 79 square metres; registration number 20-0347.
A Storehouse with Namako Walls
The Exhibition Hall stands toward the west of the site facing east: a two-storey building 11 by 5.5 metres under a hipped pantile roof, with a lean-to on the east side (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Built essentially as a fireproof storehouse, its ground floor has namako-tiled walls up to waist height, while the upper floor holds three tatami rooms with wide glazed openings along the corridor, an unusually open arrangement (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
