A School with a Tower and Carriage Porch

Kinshi Hall is the former south building of Nagano Prefectural Nagano High School: a two-storey timber building whose front is rendered in mortar on the ground floor and clad in drop siding above, with a carriage porch projecting near the centre (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The centre of the front is faced in tile and rises into a tower with a pyramidal roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes that the long, band-like classroom windows and the forms of the tower and carriage porch show the character of the period well, and registered it as a model of design.
