A Modern Hall with Old Details

The Abe Seimei Shrine Main Hall stands at the back of the precinct of Abe Seimei Shrine, beside the old Kumano Road, facing west on a cut-stone base (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a one-bay nagare-style hall roofed in copper, with plank doors set just inside the line of the front posts.

It was designed by Yoshida Tanejirō, formerly an architect to Nara Prefecture (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it as a model of design, a carefully crafted modern shrine hall dressed in old details such as Daibutsu-style beam ends and medieval-style frog-leg struts.
