About the Former Ueda Family Residence Storehouse No. 2
The Former Ueda Family Residence Storehouse No. 2 (旧植田家住宅土蔵二, Kyū-Uedake Jūtaku Dozō Ni) in Uematsu-cho, Yao City, Osaka Prefecture is a late Taisho era storehouse on the street front of the former kaisho, or estate office, of the Yasunaka Shinden reclaimed fields, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 27, 2006 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey earthen storehouse with a tiled roof and a building area of 58 square metres; registration number 27-0363.
A Storehouse Joined to the Main House
The Former Ueda Family Residence Storehouse No. 2 stands on the road along the northwest side of the site, in line with and southwest of storehouse No. 1 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a two-storey Dozo-zukuri storehouse six bays long and two bays deep, with a Kirizuma-zukuri gabled roof of Sangawara-buki pantiles.
On the inner side, away from the road, a Hisashi canopy shelters the work space in front of its doors, and a corridor joins it to the main house (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A high wall closes the gap between it and storehouse No. 1.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered the Former Ueda Family Residence Storehouse No. 2, with storehouse No. 1, as one of the buildings that make up the street front, under the criterion of contributing to the historic landscape of the country.
Of the five registered buildings it is the youngest, from the late Taisho era, showing that the compound was still gaining buildings in that period (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
