A Sub-Shrine Hall beside the Main Hall

The Katano Tenjin Shrine Hachiman Sub-Shrine Main Hall (交野天神社末社八幡神社本殿) is the main hall of a sub-shrine of the mid-Muromachi period in Kuzuhaoka, Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture, and was designated an Important Cultural Property on April 5, 1917 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a one-bay nagare-style hall roofed in cypress bark; designation number 00683.

The 1917 date in the Agency record is that of its designation under the former law.

The Hall of a Sub-Shrine

This is the main hall of the Hachiman sub-shrine, one of the minor shrines in the precinct of Katano Tenjin Shrine: a one-bay nagare-style hall roofed in cypress bark, dated by the Agency to the mid-Muromachi period (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Hirakata City says it is thought to be of the same period as the main hall, whose ridge tag is dated 1402, and that the two are the oldest buildings in the city.

Why It Is an Important Cultural Property

The Agency's record has no commentary; the structure and date set out what was designated. It was protected under the former law in 1917, together with the main hall (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
