A Pagoda-Like Terminal Station

The Mizuma Railway Mizuma Station Building (水間鉄道水間駅舎) is a terminal station building of 1926 in Mizuma, Kaizuka City, Osaka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on February 17, 1999 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey reinforced-concrete building with a building area of 149 square metres; registration number 27-0058.

A Terminal with a Pagoda-Like Centre

The Mizuma Railway Mizuma Station Building is the terminal station of the Mizuma Railway (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Its symmetrical front is unusual: the centre, with a carriage porch, is shaped like a pagoda, and round bays project at either end.

Osaka Prefecture's sightseeing guide to Kaizuka gives the present station name as Mizuma-Kannon Station, the stop for Mizumadera Temple.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes, besides its unusual design, that it is one of the early reinforced-concrete buildings of the area, and registered it as a building that would not be easy to reproduce.

What to Look For

Look for the pagoda-like centre over the carriage porch and the round bays at both ends (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Visiting

It is a station owned by the Mizuma Railway (Agency for Cultural Affairs), at the end of the line from Kaizuka Station on the Nankai Main Line (Osaka Prefecture).
