A Gabled Entrance Hall and Two Wings
The Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, built in 1936 on the heights of Tennoji Park, has a projecting entrance and hall under a gabled roof one storey higher than the rest, with galleries in the wings to either side (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Its smooth, three-tiered elevations are restrained, yet tiled copings and Western cornices and window trims bring in both Japanese and Western motifs (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency calls it a rare large art museum of the prewar years.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered it as a model of design.
