At Menuma Shodenzan: Komorido Hall
The Kangiin Komorido Hall (歓喜院籠堂) is a lodging hall for worshippers built in 1879 at Menuma Shodenzan Kangiin Temple in Menuma, Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on 2 May 2017.
The Kangiin Komorido Hall stands northeast of the Shodendo. The Agency for Cultural Affairs records it as a 2-storey timber structure, tiled roof, building area 185 square meters.
It is a two-storey building with a Yosemune-zukuri hipped roof of pantiles and a copper-roofed entrance under a Noki-karahafu cusped gable on the southeast. It was extended in the late 1950s. A komorido is a hall where people stay in seclusion to pray.
Why It Was Registered
The Kangiin Komorido Hall carries registration number 11-0160 and was registered on the same day as the other eight structures in the precinct, under the criterion of contributing to the historic landscape of the country.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs counts it among the buildings that make up the precinct landscape. It housed the worshippers who came to stay and pray, a reminder of how far the temple drew its faithful.
