A Long, Narrow Townhouse on the Street

The Shimao Family Residence Shop and Main House (島尾家住宅店舗兼主屋) is a two-storey timber townhouse of about 1877 in the centre of Tsuji, Ikawa-cho, Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture, which in 2017 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a tiled roof and a building area of 175 square metres, registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.

The Agency places it facing south onto the street in the centre of Tsuji.

Structure

According to the Agency, it is gabled with a traditional tile roof, long and narrow from north to south, under a gently pitched roof entered on the long side.

The shop is at the front, with an earthen passage along the right to a workroom at the back; the upper floor is nearly square.
