About the Kachimi Shrine Worship Hall
The Kachimi Shrine Worship Hall (加知彌神社拝殿, Kachimi Jinja Haiden) is the hall of worship of Kachimi Shrine in Terauchi, Shikano-cho, Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture; it was built in 1921 and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 6, 2024 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a single-storey timber building with a copper-plate roof (Dōban-buki) and a building area of 66 square metres; registration number 31-0288. It was renovated in the mid-Showa period and stands east of the main hall, facing east like it.
A Hip-and-Gable Hall Ringed by a Railed Veranda
The Kachimi Shrine Worship Hall measures 3 bays by 3 bays (Ketayuki and Harima) under a hip-and-gable copper roof (Irimoya-zukuri). A veranda runs around all four sides with a railing (Kōran) along its edge, and at the front a porch (Kōhai) with wide column spacing is roofed with a curved kara-hafu gable (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Inside is a single room with a wiped-board floor and a coffered ceiling (Gō-tenjō). Ornament is sparse throughout, and the building is simply made (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The hall was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape of the country. The Agency notes that the Kachimi Shrine Worship Hall, above all through its oversized kara-hafu porch, echoes the form of the main hall.
The main hall dates from 1830, and the worship hall followed 91 years later. Its hip-and-gable roof differs from the gabled roof of the main hall, but the front, a wide-spaced porch under a kara-hafu gable, matches it.
What to Look For
Stand in front of the Kachimi Shrine Worship Hall and the broad kara-hafu porch is the first thing you see. The main hall just to the west has a similar wide kara-hafu porch, so the same front is repeated twice along the line of approach (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The veranda and railing on all four sides give a crisp outline to an otherwise plain building; compare the bare walls with the curve of the hip-and-gable roof.
Visiting
The Kachimi Shrine Worship Hall is where worshippers stand before the deity, and its porch and veranda can be seen from the grounds. No official information was found on access to the interior with its wiped-board floor and coffered ceiling (checked October 31, 2026). Directions and general visiting information are on the Kachimi Shrine page.
