What Is the Sano Family Residence Tea Room?

The Sano Family Residence Tea Room (佐野家住宅茶室, Sano-ke Jūtaku Chashitsu) is a small Chashitsu built around 1900 in Onmadashi-machi, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, and it was listed as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on April 21, 1998. It stands on the south side of the courtyard behind the main house, which was rebuilt after the Takaoka fire of that year.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs describes the Sano Family Residence Tea Room as a single-storey timber building with a copper roof and a building area of just 12 square meters, registration number 16-0019. In a compound otherwise built of plastered earth and tile, it is the one structure that shows bare wood and copper.

A prefectural tourism listing refers to the tea house by the name Kan'untei.
