The Buddha Hall of Toko-ji Temple in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property built in the late Muromachi period in the Chinese Zen architectural style. Standing within one of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kofu established by the legendary warlord Takeda Shingen, this elegant hall with its cypress bark roof and distinctive double-eave design miraculously survived both the 1582 burning by Oda Nobunaga and the 1945 Kofu Air Raid, preserving a rare example of medieval Zen architecture.
A ridge tablet dates this one-bay cypress-bark sanctuary to 1478. Set among the vineyards of Makioka, it served four villages and was designated in 1953.
A late 17th-century thatched farmhouse in Hokuto, Yamanashi, 19.7 metres wide, built for a village headman. Designated in 1989, open near Kobuchizawa Station.
Built in 1612 at Mount Fuji's second station and moved to the lakeside precinct in 1973, this large, richly carved one-bay Momoyama hall was designated in 1985.
Built in 1875 in Mutsuzawa Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, this pseudo-Western schoolhouse is the finest surviving example of Fujimura-style architecture from early Meiji Japan. Designated a national Important Cultural Property in 1967, it now stands at JR Kofu Station as the free-admission Fujimura Memorial Hall.
