An English-Bond Wall along Chikaramachi Street

The Catholic Chikaramachi Church Brick Wall (カトリック主税町教会煉瓦塀) is a brick wall of the mid Meiji period in Chikaramachi, Higashi Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on July 25, 2011 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a brick wall 29 metres long; registration number 23-0336.

A Brick Wall along the Street

The brick wall of the Catholic Chikaramachi Church runs along Chikaramachi street on the north side of the site: 29 metres long, 2.1 metres high and 35 centimetres thick (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Two courses of cut stone carry English-bond brickwork, which projects at the top like coping. On the inside, buttresses 22 centimetres wide and 12 centimetres deep are set every 3.7 metres (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape, one of the elements that make up the traditional streetscape of Chikaramachi.
