The Former Nishinakagane Station at a Glance

The Former Nishinakagane Station in Nakagane-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, was the terminus of the Meitetsu Mikawa Line; its station building of 1930 and its early Showa platform were each registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on October 2, 2007. They are owned by Toyota City.

According to Tourism Toyota, the section of the Meitetsu Mikawa Line from Sanage to Nishinakagane closed after March 31, 2004, and the stations along it, Mikawa-Mifune, Shidare, Mikawa-Hirose and Nishinakagane, were closed.

Station Building and Platform

According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the station building is a single-storey timber structure facing a road to the south, and the platform runs east to west immediately to its north. The platform is simply built without a canopy, and together with the building it forms a railway landscape that blends into the farmland.

Tourism Toyota describes the old-fashioned platform, at home among the fields, as evoking a nostalgic mood.

Visiting and Getting There

According to Tourism Toyota, both the former Mikawa-Hirose and Nishinakagane stations have toilets and parking. The nearest railway stations are Sanage on the Meitetsu Mikawa Line or Shigo on the Aichi Loop Line. Along the disused line, a walking path at the former Mikawa-Mifune Station and a trolley at the former Shidare Station are also featured.
