Narumi Tegashi Shrine Office

The Narumi Tegashi Shrine Office (鳴海杻神社社務所) is a structure of around 1917 at Narumi Tegashi Shrine in Haguro, Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, and it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 6, 2024, under registration number 23-0596. The Agency for Cultural Affairs records it as a single-storey timber building with a tiled roof and a building area of 69 square metres.

Why It Was Registered

The Narumi Tegashi Shrine Office was registered as contributing to the historic landscape of the country. According to the Agency, it stands southeast in the grounds, east of the approach entrance: a single-storey hip-and-gable building entered on the long side, tiled, with a gabled entrance at the centre of the west front.

A corridor runs along the front, with a reception room with alcove and an anteroom to the north, and across a corridor the office and kitchen side by side to the south. The Agency notes that though plain in design, it gives definition to the landscape beside the shrine entrance.

What to Look For

Look at the gabled entrance on the west front, set against the hip-and-gable main block beside the approach (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Built around the same time as the shrine buildings, it survives with them as the working centre of the shrine.
