Narumi Tegashi Shrine (鳴海杻神社) stands on the south bank of the Gojo River in Haguro, Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture; its main hall, ritual hall, worship hall, screen wall and office, built around 1917, and its Benten Hall of 1865 were each registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 6, 2024, six in all.

According to Inuyama City, it is a shiki-nai-sha listed in the Engishiki register of shrines, said to have been founded in 481, though details are unknown. Its deities are Tohotsu Yamasaki Tarashi no Kami and Takaokami no Kami.

The Shrine Layout

According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the screen wall stands north of the torii, and behind it the worship hall, ritual hall and main hall line up in a row. The screen wall is a type of blind wall peculiar to the Owari region. The shrine office stands east of the approach entrance, and the Benten Hall on the east bank of a spring-fed pond to the west.

The main hall dates from 1917 and the ritual hall, worship hall, screen wall and office from around the same time, apparently a single campaign of building. The Benten Hall of 1865 is the oldest building in the grounds (Agency for Cultural Affairs). From screen wall to main hall, the sequence typical of Owari shrines can be seen together here.

Visiting

Narumi Tegashi Shrine is at 109 Narumigo, Haguro, Inuyama City. No official information was found on visiting or on access to the buildings, so be mindful of festivals and services when visiting.
