The First Registered Station Out of Goi

The Kominato Railway Kazusa Murakami Station Building (小湊鉄道上総村上駅本屋, Kazusa-Murakami-eki hon'ya) is a single-storey timber station built around 1927 in the Murakami district of Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture; it was enlarged in 1932 and registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on May 2, 2017. In Japanese railway usage, hon'ya means the main station building.

Kazusa Murakami lies about 2.5 kilometers southeast of Goi, which makes it the first registered station you reach on the line.

Two Roofs Under One Canopy

The Agency for Cultural Affairs records the Kominato Railway Kazusa Murakami Station Building as a single-storey timber building with a tiled roof and a building area of 42 square meters, one of the smallest on the line.

It reads as two pieces. The original block, under a half-hipped roof of pantiles, holds a compact office and staff rest room. Beside it a waiting shelter was added under a lean-to roof of corrugated iron. A canopy running the full length of the track side pulls the two roof shapes together.

The agency points to that canopy as what gives the building its unity. It is an easy place to see how a small rural station grew in increments as passenger numbers rose.

Seeing It

The Kominato Railway Kazusa Murakami Station Building is still in use, so you can step into the waiting shelter when you ride. Turn back toward the building from the platform to see the tiled half-hip and the tin lean-to side by side under one canopy.

The station is unstaffed but has a ticket machine. As of September 25, 2026, trains between Goi and Kazusa Ushiku were running normally.
