The Main Building, Said to Date from the Founding

Nakamuraya Ryokan is said to have been an inn founded in the Edo period that the present owners' ancestors bought and kept running (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The main building is said to date from the founding and has storehouse-style outer walls.

The exterior has later alterations, but its heavy form, with the third floor smaller than the two below to give a sense of stability, is unusual and stands out in the town (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it as a building that would not be easy to reproduce, a storehouse-style inn of unusual form with a smaller third floor.

What to Look For

Look for the third floor set smaller than the two below and the heavy storehouse-style walls (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
