A Physician's Gate on the Nakasendo Town
The Imao Family Residence Front Gate and Wall (今尾家住宅表門及び塀) is the front gate and wall of the Imao family estate in Naka-Shinkano-cho, Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture, from the late Meiji and Taisho periods, which in 2007 were registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a tiled timber gate 2.0 metres wide with wicket doors, and a tiled timber wall 35 metres long; they were registered for their contribution to the historic landscape.
The Agency describes the gate as a pantiled yakui-mon on the south side of the site.
Structure
According to the Agency, the gate has double doors with a wicket on each side. From each wicket the wall runs east to the rice storehouse and west, turning north at the southwest corner, to the detached house.
The wall, 34.5 metres long, stands on a round-stone foundation, with cedar boarding below white plaster on the outside and windows every two bays.
What to Look For
The gate with wickets on both sides, and the walls running from it round the estate, form the front of a physician family's house.
The Agency's record gives the wall length as 35 metres in the structure field and 34.5 metres in its description.
