A Storehouse of Massive Timbers

The Yatsusankan Storehouse (八ツ三館土蔵) is a large storehouse of massive timbers of the late Meiji era in Furukawacho Mukaimachi, Hida City, Gifu Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on October 2, 2007 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a two-storey earthen-walled storehouse with a tiled roof and a building area of 90 square metres; registration number 21-0147.

A Storehouse between the Wings

The Yatsusankan Storehouse stands north–south between the main building and the great hall, a large two-storey storehouse six bays by four under a separate pantiled gabled roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

A vestibule with double earthen doors faces the main building, and there are no other openings; the roof frame of sloping beams on a ridge beam and the massive posts give a powerful interior (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes its powerful interior of massive timbers, and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
