Ikarugadera Temple

Ikarugadera (斑鳩寺) is a temple in Ikaruga, Taishi Town, Hyogo Prefecture, whose precinct keeps a three-storied pagoda of 1565 and the middle and rear halls of the Shotokuden of 1916 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The pagoda is an Important Cultural Property, and the two Shotokuden halls are Registered Tangible Cultural Properties.

The Three Properties

The pagoda is a three-bay, three-storied pagoda roofed in hongawara tiles; it was designated on April 4, 1928, and is now an Important Cultural Property (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency database gives no description of it.

The Shotokuden faces east toward the south of the precinct and is a modern Buddhist hall designed by Ito Heizaemon (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The middle hall links the front and rear halls and has a doubly raised coffered ceiling over its sanctuary. The rear hall looks like an octagonal hall under three tiers of roofs, with a cusped gable and a shrine cabinet inside. The two halls were registered on July 31, 2007. Each building is covered on its own page.
