A Ritual Hall East of the Main Hall

The Nishinomiya Shrine East Wing Hall (西宮神社東翼殿) is a single-storey timber ritual hall completed in 1961 at Nishinomiya Shrine in Shakecho, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, which in 2025 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a copper roof and a building area of 16 square metres; it was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.

The Agency places it east of the main hall, facing south onto the sacred courtyard.

Structure

According to the Agency, it is one bay square on a rounded plinth, gabled and roofed in copper, with square posts tied by lintels and boat-shaped brackets.

Inside is a single boarded room open to the roof, and a veranda with an upturned railing runs along its south and west sides.

What to Look For

Built new with the reconstruction of the main hall, it forms one corner of the sacred courtyard.

The shrine describes the east and west wing halls as ritual halls either side of the main hall.

Visiting

The wing halls stand within the sacred courtyard and can be seen from the worship hall together with the main hall.
