A Tiny Subsidiary Shrine of the Meiji Period
The Tomari Shrine Sub-Shrine Shushi Shrine Main Hall (泊神社末社種子神社本殿) is a small timber shrine of the Meiji period in the grounds of Tomari Shrine in Kimura, Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, which in 2008 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a single-storey timber structure with a copper roof and a building area of 0.25 square metres; it was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.
The Agency places it south of the Sumiyoshi subsidiary shrine, facing east.
Structure
According to the Agency, it is a one-bay shrine in the nagare style with a shelf-like front, 0.45 metres wide and 0.55 metres deep.
It is almost identical in size, form and carved decoration to the Sumiyoshi shrine, and the two seem to have been built together.
What to Look For
Compare it with the Sumiyoshi shrine beside it to see how closely their size and carving match. The Agency notes that many small shrines line the grounds from west to north of the main hall, giving the precinct its rich character.
