A Drum House of 1936
The Tomari Shrine Taikogura (Drum House) (泊神社太鼓倉) is a single-storey timber drum house built in 1936 at Tomari Shrine in Kimura, Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, which in 2008 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a tiled roof and a building area of 24 square metres; it was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.
The Agency places it southwest of the kagura hall, west of the guardian gate.
Structure
According to the Agency, it measures 6.4 by 3.8 metres, with a pantiled roof that is hip-and-gable on the north and gabled on the south.
A large doorway opens in the north gable end; the other three sides are earthen walls, plastered inside and clad in charred boards outside.
What to Look For
Notice the large doorway in the north gable, the charred-board walls and the roof that changes shape from north to south. Standing west of the guardian gate, it helps shape the scene near the entrance to the precinct.
